What is the best body posture for recording voice overs ?

When you think of recording voice over for commercial,e-learning,documentary ,white  board animation  ,ivr ,dubbing etc. The first thought comes in your mind is, in  which body posture one should record voice overs -Standing or Sitting ?

Your voice tends to change when you try to adjust your body posture while recording in a sound studio.
Recording voice over while standing is actually not mandatory it depends on voice over artist what best suits to him or her.

Standing posture works on dubbing for  specific characters but for long sessions standing won't work
:( In fact it will make your recording inconsistent :( ,so before recording E-learning or long recording sessions think twice- Stand or Sit ? So it is always  advisable to sit ,that will help you in maintaining your voice tone throughout the recording session and you wont get tired.

Voice Over Is An Art or Technique

When i talk about How to become a voice over artist or who is voice over artist ?
well, its anything that's done behind the scene , off  camera using your voice, it could be cartoons or radio spots,it could be movie ad where they have the voice...."Coming to the theatre next week......." things like that,  you need certain things and tools .
First of all what do you need to start with ?  may be couple of  lessons with some voice overs actors and teachers,i have taken myself then you have to make your demo, you have to make your best voice over demo recordings so that voice over agent can hear what you can do , you can record your  demo in professional sound studio and keep promoting your voice in voice over market.

You have to define the category of your voice recordings like

  • cartoon voices,
  • commercial voice over,
  • narration for documentaries ,
  • IVR
  • Promo voices
  • Dubbing
  • Mimicry
  • Testimonials
  • Website intro
  • Radio commercials
  • Jingles
The more you can do with your voice ...the better ,try to create different voices that will help you for grabbing  dubbing projects because many companies  want versatile voice over artist  so that they can get the variations for making the project perfect .

How to present themselves as a voice over artist

The  biggest problem the most people face  when come to presentation  is they dont understand their own potential, of their own voice ,some people want to be voice over talent ,people want to be Radio Jockey ,wants to do cartoon voicing but most importantly before you get down to doing all this, you have to realize your voice’s  true potential.

How to begin with voice over’s practice.
Every morning pickup news paper and you need to read this for  atleast  half an hour aloud  every morning ,this way first and foremost when you  are speaking aloud you start listening to your own voice over ,you  get used to it  secondly when people tell you about diction ,people tell you about being precise , accuracy ,articulateness all this come over a period of time. You have to work really hard for improving your voice.pick up simple language from the story books and start reading those lines aloud.

Building stamina for recording voice overs for longer sessions

Simples excercise that you could begin with is the  omkaar ,omkaar has three syllables  in it aa ,ooh, mah
Aa –come out from your noise there is little bit of nasal quality to aah you have to hold your breath
Take a deap breath in then you start speaking while you are  exhailing

If you are breathing in while you are speaking you are actually  fighting with yourself ...you go out of breath that should not happen,so  if you take deep breath in and starts speaking you can speak for longer   thats how RJ would be able to  speak for 1 min without even taking a breath can you imagine that..you can do that as well.

Best Place to practice voice overs.

Start practicing in bathroom because in bathroom got high resonance that creates reverberate ,your voice get reflected and gets back to your ears and you hear  your voice  Go and Get packed in your bathroom and start  doing  voicing excercises
